First Post! 02/22/2008

Hi all - I am trying to incorporate a Comments section in the Town Web Site where anyome in Longridge - or ex-Longriders anywhere in the world - can leave brief comments.

I am not really sure how it works but please have a go - if it screws up I will delete it :). I think you have to click on Comments to provide a Comment.

I am writing a second entry to see what happens.

Remember, for full discussion on any item please use the Feedback and Discussion options.

This Comments area is more for quick 'how are we doing?' type of comments.

Looks like it will now allow simple comments - but just in one long sequential string.

I am not sure how a Second Post (on something new) is achieved. Maybe you can't?

Anyway, someone else have a go :)

Hi You don't appear to have holidays in the surrounding district included. I know that the Forest of Bowland have festival in June. So perhaps a link to them would be good. I have just one cottage.I try to encourage people to shop in longridge and the surrounding area, I also provide information about where to source a butcher, fresh vedg, bakers and also where to get a coffee etc when shopping Any way I think Longridge is a becoming a very vibrant town.just needs marketing.

The Longridge Town website is a great idea and long overdue. Well Done. I do however feel that the site needs and Arts and Culture section. There are quite a few visual artists living and working in Longridge as well as people from a performing arts background. I myself am a visual artist and would like the town site to have a link to my website www.cmartanddesignservices.co.uk My eldest son is a musician and would like the town site to provide a link to his band's site www.myspace.com/buickmckaneuk keep up the good work and hope the site continues to develop. Just found this website - excellent idea!

Design and content so far is impressive, shame there's not much feedback yet, but hope that the council decides it is worthwhile to keep it going (it's now two months after the three month 'Test period').

Might need to look at the identity / keywords etc - tried a Google search on Longridge; this site did not appear in the first twenty pages of results, not many people trawl beyond the first couple of pages of results. Nevertheless, keep up the good work!

Trying to find cinema times for the longridge theatre. Not sure if these are on the website but I was unable to find them. Thought it might be a good idea to have them on here.

County falls silent to mark Remembrance Day at 11am except Longridge who think its better to change the time to 10:45am !

Please excuse my opening statement as I still cannot comprehend what happened yesterday. I left my home to be at the cenotaph for 10:50am only to find out that it was all over, I have never missed remembrance day as both my grandfathers and my father served in the military, and I feel it is only right that I should show my respect to all the fallen that have made this great country what it is.

I moved to Longridge six months ago and have found it to be a close knit community, however on Sunday morning my opinion changed I have never felt so let down why was there such a lack of respect shown?

Just chanced on Longridge website.. to see a photo of Berry Lane with, on right-hand side, The Manse. We arrived there about 70 years ago to stay with Rev & Mrs Haigh. Believe there are still many living in and around Longridge who will remember The Twins!

Was doing a Google search for a
picture of the Longridge stone at Alston and found this site by chance.
A link to the www.longridgeonline.co.uk would be a good idea to profile the businesses. This site was set up through the Longridge Business Group.Like the site, quite informative, well done.

In reply to Wilf, as above, The Manse is now an Indian restaurant.

MR/MRS MAYOR-LORD MAYOR-OFFICERS-CLERKS,SECRETARIES... (OR TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN)

Dear Sir.- I am a Spanish 52, of Huelva, a small town in southern Spain, which has a great passion: the heraldry of municipalities, counties, countries, .... This made a few years ago started collecting pins ( metal badges, ties clip, needles, too) representing the heraldic shields (coat of arms) of the counties, districts, towns and villages and parish in the world. (Only in heraldic form.) NO LOGOS.

So I turn to you for if they send me the heraldry insignia/pin of the armorial bearing for your County / City / Council / Municipality / District and others of parish, towns...
This really would appreciate, and would be an honor to receive of you. IF YOU ARE GOING TO SEND A PIN, PLEASE SAY TO ME IF IT`S HERALDIC/SHIELD/COAT OF ARMS.

No more, I leave you with the best and sincere wishes for your town and its people, as well as the best of luck in their management of the municipality.

Best regards, carefully

Miguel Gomez.

My address is:

If you are going to send the pin, do so in appropriate envelope, protecting either the pin from paper, cardboard, ever got loose in the envelope to avoid damage in the mail, and can even lose and never giving in on their content.
Thank you.

I wondered if the town council was aware of any movement regarding the development of the old childrens home and adjoining land at the bottom of Barnacre Road. I believe the home was sold some time ago and am aware that the owner of the adjoining land is trying to get planning permission for residential development. The land and home are becoming an eyesore, overgrown and neglected. Fly tipping has begun on the land and the home has lost most windows at the rear allowing free access to the building, which is happening on a frequent basis. Families attending Barnacre Road Primary School have to pass this every day, anyone frequenting Sainsburys, Longridge residents or visitors, cannot fail to notice and not to leave out the residents of Barnacre Road, Hesketh Road and Nateby Close who have to put up with this overgrown mess daily. I have been made aware that some homeowners on these roads, myself and family included, feel ashamed to have people visit because of what they have to pass. The newly developed residential home promised good things for this area, sadly it has not turned out that way. I would be grateful if the town council were able to find out what the future holds for this area.
Thankyou.

I have the same problem as Melanie above.. My partner Julia and I run Cuban Salsa dancing classes every Monday evening at the Conservative Club on Berry Lane. I'd like to be listed on your website but it's not really clear how or who to contact. Details of our classes are on www.sweetsalsa.co.uk or telephone 07763 207856. Everyone is welcome.
