The Old Station Buildings, Longridge
Restoration and Conversion Project
After many years of concerted effort and fund raising, the Town Council, working in partnership with the County Councils Environmental Projects Team is pleased to announce the start of this exciting community project which will provide a range of new facilities for the Town.
The scheme designed by local architects Michael Rayner Associates, includes office space, meeting rooms, town archive, exhibition space and a heritage themed café. Outside will be new landscaped public space.
The funding package which will provide a £500,000 investment in the Town also includes for the provision of two part-time Heritage Officers to develop the project and to work with the community over the first 3 years.
The contract for the restoration and conversion, which includes for replacing the canopy along the front of the building, has been awarded to local building contractors, Walter Carefoot and Sons of Longridge.
Funding for the project which has come from 12 different sources, completed by a recent contribution from Biffaward one of the leading landfill communities fund schemes, also includes generous contributions from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Ribble Valley Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Environmental Fund, Lancashire Small Sites, Longridge and District Local History Society, Lancashire Rural Futures, Longridge Partnership, Longridge Heritage Committee, Longridge Social Enterprise Company and the Town Council.
Gillian French programme manager for Biffaward commented "Biffaward is delighted to support this project in Longridge which will provide a valuable space for the whole community to enjoy.
The building once completed will be operated by the Longridge Social Enterprise Company which manages the Civic Hall.
